HELLO
I’m Allison. Welcome to Brooklyn Bridge the Gap, where your child’s in-class learning is supplemented with personalized, literacy instruction. Sessions integrate executive functioning skills that cross into all subjects, and everyday life.
Meetings can be held remotely via Zoom or in your own home.
Private Literacy Instruction: Structured like a typical tutoring session, the focus will be on your child’s needs-reading comprehension, decoding, phonological awareness, writing, spelling, grammar, etc...
Weekly Literary Groups: Assemble a group of friends to meet once a week to read and interact with different literary genres. Sessions include follow-up, deep-dive discussions along with activities that encourage an oral analysis of characters, theme, plot, narration, etc...
Book Clubs: Have a few kids that would enjoy reading together? Three to five children meet once a week for an hour to discuss a current, or classic, novel. Short, reflective journal entries will be assigned to help move the discussion along. Monthly book clubs are also an option for busy schedules.
High School and College Essay Workshops: It’s time to think outside the box and create a stand-out essay. The personalized course focuses on topic generation/selection, brainstorming, essay composition, and editing. Essays are completed without frustration!
A BIT ABOUT ME
I took a break from teaching after eleven years to spend more time raising our children with my husband, Brian, in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I began to see the need for supplemental reading and writing instruction for my own kids--and heard of the same concerns from friends and other parents in the neighborhood. Finding this to be a good reason to dust off my books and manuals, I decided it would also be the perfect time to give my one-on-one instruction a second life.
